Cardano's $3.09 All-Time High Was 5 Years Ago—Can ADA Ever Get Back There?

In a recent X post, market data platform CoinGecko noted that Cardano (ADA) last reached its all-time high of $3.09 exactly five years and 11 days ago.

"ADA last hit its ATH of $3.09 exactly five years and 11 days ago. Are you looking to buy, sell, or hold the token?" CoinGecko wrote.

Cardano's price peaked at $3.09 on September 2, 2021, just before the Alonzo upgrade that introduced native smart contract capability to the network.

The Alonzo upgrade, which was part of the Goguen development phase, included the Plutus smart contract platform and was launched on September 12, 2021.

But five years later, Cardano is down 93.19% from its ATH of $3.09, with the market divided over whether ADA can reclaim it. While ADA has seen price increases since then, none has been strong enough to challenge the $3.09 record.

At the time of writing, Cardano was trading at $0.21; it might need to rally 1,371.43% to regain the all-time high of $3.09, with the market wondering if it will and when this could happen, given the current uncertainty in the market.

What comes next?

Cardano celebrates its official birthday and network launch anniversary every year on September 23, marking the minting of its genesis block in 2017.

Cardano's initial roadmap breaks down its development into five eras: Byron, Shelley, Goguen, Basho, and Voltaire. Following the launch of on-chain governance, Cardano is moving into the Dijkstra era.

Cardano ADA is now an official part of the x402 codebase, with a working implementation. The integration is enabling x402 payments on Cardano, available on mainnet, preprod, and preview testnet. Previously, only the specification was included, but now Cardano is also available via the official x402 packages in various programming languages.

SundaeSwap is launching its v4 protocol on Cardano Mainnet on October 1, bringing modular pools, automated routing, concentrated liquidity, multi-asset pools, custom vaults, and partial fills. Ouroboros Leios is '96% ready' to showcase 1,000 TPS, with the scaling upgrade expected to go live on the Cardano mainnet this year.
