TRX Options Now on Blockchain.com with $5 Minimum Premium

Blockchain.com has made TRX options available through its Trading Account as part of a seven-asset launch, with a $5 minimum premium and access restricted to eligible users outside the United States and other excluded markets.

Summary

  • TRX is one of seven cryptocurrencies supported in Blockchain.com’s options rollout, with initial expiries up to one week.
  • US, UK and Canadian residents are excluded from the service under Blockchain.com’s published eligibility rules.
  • Options start at a $5 premium plus fees and cannot be sold or closed before expiration.
  • Blockchain.com’s BVI entity acts as the sole counterparty, with contracts settled bilaterally outside an exchange.

TRON DAO confirmed the availability in an announcement published Oct. 28, following Blockchain.com’s Oct. 20 release naming TRX among the cryptocurrencies supported at launch. The company’s original lineup included Bitcoin, Ether, Solana, Hyperliquid, Avalanche and XRP alongside TRON’s native token.

TRX options offer contracts lasting up to one week

In its launch release, Blockchain.com said customers choose an expiration date, target price, and trade amount before reviewing and confirming a purchase. The app converts those selections into a call or put option, with live market prices displayed during the process.

Contracts initially run for up to one week, according to the company, and purchases are funded upfront with USDC held in the Trading Account. Blockchain.com described the service as buying options, with the amount paid upfront setting the maximum potential trading loss.

Speaking in TRON DAO’s announcement, Taro Ugen, Blockchain.com’s vice president of consumer, described TRX as a “natural addition” to the options lineup, citing the network’s size, user base and the token’s role in operating the blockchain.

TRON DAO said the product brings access to TRX options into Blockchain.com’s consumer app. Its release carries an Oct. 28 publication date and an Oct. 21 dateline; Blockchain.com’s earlier announcement had already included the asset in the launch.

US residents are excluded from the options service

Blockchain.com’s support FAQ lists the United States, United Kingdom and Canada among the countries whose residents cannot use the service. France, Germany, Spain, Italy, the Netherlands, Malta, Japan and Nigeria appear on the same exclusion list.

Beyond geography, the company’s access guide says users need an eligible account and Trading Account, and may have to complete further identity checks or accept the Options Agreement and risk acknowledgments. The guide prohibits using a VPN to bypass location restrictions.

Under Blockchain.com’s Options Agreement, updated Oct. 12, the contracting entity is Blockchain.com (BVI) II Limited. The document defines the products as cash-settled, European-style calls and puts entered into bilaterally between the customer and that entity.

The agreement states: “WE ARE YOUR SOLE COUNTERPARTY TO EVERY OPTION AND WE ACT AS PRINCIPAL, NOT AS YOUR AGENT OR BROKER.” Blockchain.com says the contracts are not traded on an exchange or venue, and customers have no rights against any venue or hedging counterparty.

In its separate risk guide, the company says the service lacks the licensing and supervision described in the agreement and that users do not receive the regulatory protections or compensation schemes available for licensed financial services.

Fees and settlement determine whether a payout produces profit

The $5 minimum in Blockchain.com’s FAQ covers the premium, leaving applicable fees to be paid separately. In its fee guide, the company describes two charges: a percentage of the premium paid at purchase, and a settlement charge on the amount by which a qualifying gross payout exceeds the premium.

The quoted premium contains a spread or markup that is not displayed as a separate fee, according to the same guide. Blockchain.com says fee schedules can change and some customers may receive discounts, but changes do not affect contracts already purchased. Customers see their applicable fees before confirming the trade.

In Blockchain.com’s payout guide, a call’s gross payment equals the settlement price minus the strike price, multiplied by the quantity of cryptocurrency covered. A put uses the strike price minus the settlement price, multiplied by that quantity. Both formulas apply when the contract finishes in the money.

The guide distinguishes receiving a payment from making a profit: the final payout must cover the premium and upfront fee before the customer earns money overall. Blockchain.com says buyers do not need to own the underlying cryptocurrency, face margin calls, or deposit further funds to maintain the position.

The company’s FAQ says customers cannot sell or close options early, and their strike price and expiration become fixed after purchase. Its access guide says quotes currently remain valid for 30 seconds, after which an unconfirmed purchase requires a fresh quote.

In its risk disclosure, Blockchain.com warns that indicative odds, probabilities, and potential payouts shown before a purchase are not forecasts or guaranteed returns. The company says cryptocurrency price changes can affect an option’s value, while a contract that expires worthless leaves the buyer without a payout.

Blockchain.com has expanded its derivatives product range

Before the options rollout, Blockchain.com introduced wallet-based perpetual futures, as crypto.news reported on April 22. The company said that product used Hyperliquid, covered more than 190 crypto markets, and offered leverage of up to 40 times within its self-custody DeFi wallet.

On Oct. 21, coverage of Blockchain.com’s US prediction-market application cited the Financial Times on the company’s pursuit of regulatory permission to offer event contracts. Neither Blockchain.com’s application nor a separate application by Binance US constituted authorization to start offering those products, according to that report.

TRX investment products had entered US brokerage markets before the latest options announcement. The Canary Staked TRX ETF began its US debut under ticker TRXS on Sept. 9. The fund’s registration documents described a strategy of holding and staking TRX, with retained staking rewards incorporated into its net asset value.
